Carpe Annum!

December 29, 2007

It’s my last night in Baltimore, as a resident. I am moving closer to DC, and I really do not know what to do with the feelings inside me at the moment. I am very conscious of this feeling of uncertainty. I am embarking on a new part of my life. I will be 30 next year, which in itself, doesn’t mean a lot in terms of the fear of getting old. However, I do feel the need for more permanence in my life, as I stated in an earlier post.

Additionally, it will be my last semester in grad school. I am expected to be a real adult: pay loans, getting up at the same time everyday for work, blah, blah. I will do those things, but seriously, life is complex… Before I go off on a rant, I just wanted to pause in the midst of packing and listening to music, and realize that I am entering a new year, and a new chapter in my life. Carpe Annum, I say!! Carpe Annum!

Bluehouse Cafe and a Lazy Sunday Evening

November 4, 2007

Finished my work for class earlier than I thought, and had time to browse the Internet. Listened to a few Rilke poems on Youtube, replied to emails, looked up some info on Portland—thinking of visiting there soon. The best thing about today is that I am at the bluehouse Cafe in Fells Point, and I love it here. The energy is laid back, there is free Internet and the staff is hella cool! The only thing that would make it better would be White Teeth, for some reason I left it at my apartment— was rushing to meet a friend at Starbucks.

Graves, Poe and Popcorn

November 1, 2007

‘Tis Halloween… Hey, I just realized that for some reason the dates on my blog are all wrong. This post may say November 1st, but it is really Halloween.

Anyhoo, I did a tour of Westminster Hall tonight. Edgar Allan Poe is buried there, along with his wife and aunt. It was a really cool tour. I learned some background information about the building and other people buried there. Just so you know, Westminster Hall was actually an active church until 1977. It was then owned by University of Maryland’s Law School. The most interesting info about Westminster Hall is that it was actually built over the graves. The lot was a cemetery first– underneath the church you can walk  and see graves within.

After the tour, there were readings from famous Edgar Allan Poe stories and poems, including “The Tell Tale Heart” and “The Raven.” The actor who did “The Tell Tale Heart” was superb, he memorized the entire story, and recited it with vigor. It was a good night– graves, Poe, free popcorn and cider!
