I Celebrate Myself…

I’m Cheatin’

So I got to admit, Whitman isn’t the only man in my life. Rilke came around and “messed ma whole head up,” as they say. Rainer Maria Rilke, a thinker (man, I love those types!) and a genius. Words such as:

"Who, if I cried out, would hear me among the angels'
hierarchies? and even if one of them suddenly
pressed me against his heart, I would perish
in the embrace of his stronger existence.
For beauty is nothing but the beginning of terror
which we are barely able to endure and are awed
because it serenely disdains to annihilate us."

I mean, how can a girl resist? I remember the first time I was introduced to Rilke, it was over the internet and he swooned me with his First Elegy. Like the beginning of an internet romance, I did not want to get off the computer. I stayed up, reading each line over and over again, until I fell asleep. Before I go further–dear reader, do not think I am crazy, empathize with me. If you are a lover of words, you will understand: when you comes across words that feed your soul, it is intoxicating, so much so, you want to share it with everyone. You want everyone to experience it like you did and that is why I am writing this blog, read him for yourself:

I Have Learned So much from God That I can no longer Call Myself A Christian, a Hindu, a Muslim, A Buddhist, a Jew. The Truth has shared so much of Itself With me That I can no longer call myself A man, a woman, an angel, Or even pure Soul. Love has Befriended Hafiz so completely It has turned to ash And freed Me Of every concept and image My mind has ever known. ~ Hafiz ~
