I Celebrate Myself…

Graves, Poe and Popcorn

‘Tis Halloween… Hey, I just realized that for some reason the dates on my blog are all wrong. This post may say November 1st, but it is really Halloween.

Anyhoo, I did a tour of Westminster Hall tonight. Edgar Allan Poe is buried there, along with his wife and aunt. It was a really cool tour. I learned some background information about the building and other people buried there. Just so you know, Westminster Hall was actually an active church until 1977. It was then owned by University of Maryland’s Law School. The most interesting info about Westminster Hall is that it was actually built over the graves. The lot was a cemetery first– underneath the church you can walk  and see graves within.

After the tour, there were readings from famous Edgar Allan Poe stories and poems, including “The Tell Tale Heart” and “The Raven.” The actor who did “The Tell Tale Heart” was superb, he memorized the entire story, and recited it with vigor. It was a good night– graves, Poe, free popcorn and cider!

I Have Learned So much from God That I can no longer Call Myself A Christian, a Hindu, a Muslim, A Buddhist, a Jew. The Truth has shared so much of Itself With me That I can no longer call myself A man, a woman, an angel, Or even pure Soul. Love has Befriended Hafiz so completely It has turned to ash And freed Me Of every concept and image My mind has ever known. ~ Hafiz ~
